Brisbane City Council’s Sustainability Grants
Brisbane City Council’s Sustainability Grants aid non-profit organisations to undertake actions to support the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of their facilities.
Funding is provided towards an energy audit according to AS/NZS 3598.1:2014 and implementation of associated energy efficiency measures.
Energy and water assessments can assist
- Understanding where and how energy and water is utilised in your building
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational cost
- Benchmarking against your peers and identify opportunities for improvements
Who is eligible for a sustainability grant?
- An applicant should be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation
- An unincorporated not-for-profit organisation or community group may also apply, under the auspices of an incorporated not-for-profit organisation prepared to act as a sponsor
- The sponsor must be able to accept legal and financial responsibility for the applicant’s project
- Applicants must not have any overdue Council grant acquittals or outstanding debts with Council
What can be funded?
- If an existing energy audit has been completed within the last 12 months, $10,000 to implement energy efficiency measures identified as priorities by the audit.
- Applicants without an energy audit can apply for up to $10,000 in total, up to $5,000 for energy audits plus the remaining funds towards implementing energy efficiency measures.
- The maximum amount of funding provided towards the audit will be 20% of the organisation’s total energy costs during the past 12 months, capped at $5,000.
- Organisations with low energy consumption, where 20% of their total energy costs do not provide adequate funds for an audit are still eligible to apply.
- Schools can apply for funding for facilities that have a substantial use by the broader community for non-commercial purposes and must be able to demonstrate such use.
